Faith in Action – Making a Way to Jesus (365/154)

Every one of us has someone we love who is struggling, too weary to pray or too burdened to seek God. Are we willing to carry them into Jesus’ presence?
Mark 2 tells us that Jesus was teaching in a crowded house in Capernaum, and there was no room left, not even at the door (v1-2). Four men carried their paralyzed friend to Jesus, but the crowd blocked their way. Most people would have turned back. Not these friends! They climbed onto the roof, removed part of it, and lowered their friend on his mat directly before Jesus (v3-4). “When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven you’” (v5). Their faith was persistent and creative, reflecting a faith that refused to let obstacles keep someone they loved from the Savior.
Jesus did more than heal a body; He forgave the man's sins, which was his greatest need. Demonstrating His authority, Jesus commanded the man to rise, take up his mat, and walk, which he did immediately (v11-12).
Faith in action sometimes means carrying someone else's burden, standing in the gap through prayer; and doing whatever it takes to bring them to Jesus, especially when they no longer have the strength to come to Him themselves.
Pause and Ponder
Who has God placed in my life that needs me to faithfully bring them to Jesus in prayer?
Have I allowed obstacles or discouragement to keep me from persevering for others?
In what practical way can I help someone experience the love and compassion of Christ this week?
Faith in action does not simply believe that Jesus can help, but carries others to Him.
Compassionate Savior, give me a faith that perseveres for others. Help me carry the burdens of those around me, faithfully bring them to You. Amen.
