Holiness – The Doorway to Holiness (365/164)

Temptation often whispers that one small compromise will not matter. It invites us to linger, negotiate, and see how close we can get to the edge without falling.
The Bible tells us in Genesis 39 that Joseph faced relentless temptation. Potiphar's wife pursued him day after day, refusing to accept his repeated refusals (v7–10). As a trusted servant in Potiphar's house, Joseph understood that yielding would not merely betray his master; it would be a sin against God. His view of God shaped his view of temptation. “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (v9).
While Potiphar's wife indulged and fed her sinful desires, Joseph fled. When temptation escalated from persistent persuasion to physical enticement, he did not stay to argue, negotiate, or test his own strength. He ran (v. 12). Joseph understood that holiness sometimes requires decisive action. He chose temporary loss rather than lasting compromise, leaving his garment behind but preserving his integrity before God.
Our holy God does not merely command holiness; He provides the way to pursue it. In Christ, we have One who was tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15). When we trust Jesus we actively choose God's way, remove ourselves from temptation because we value fellowship with Him above fleeting pleasure.
Pause and Ponder
What recurring temptation am I trying to manage instead of fleeing?
Are there situations, relationships, or habits that I need to distance myself from to protect my holiness?
How does remembering God's holiness change the choices I make when I am tempted?
God always provides a doorway of escape; holiness chooses to run through it.
Holy Father, strengthen me to flee temptation, walk in purity, and honor You in both my thoughts and actions. Amen.
