Holiness – When No One Else Sees (365/167)

It is possible to look devoted on the outside while hiding compromise within. We can impress people with our words, actions, and generosity, yet God knows our hearts.
The early church was marked by remarkable unity, generosity, and devotion. But in the midst of this vibrant community, Ananias and Sapphira chose appearance over authenticity (Acts 5:1–11). They sold a piece of property and gave only a portion of the proceeds while pretending to offer everything. Their sin was not withholding money; it was seeking the reputation of sacrifice while secretly living a lie. Peter's piercing words are a powerful reminder “You have not lied to men but to God” (Acts 5:4). Their sudden judgment reminded the church that God's holiness cannot be mocked or manipulated. He desires truth in the inward parts (Psalm 51:6).
The Church is called to, “Be holy, for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16). Through Christ's sacrificial love, the Church is being made holy, prepared as a radiant bride without spot or wrinkle (Ephesians 5:25–27). We are God's temple, indwelt by His Spirit, and therefore called to glorify Him in every aspect of life (1 Corinthians 3:16–17; 6:19–20).
Holiness is not performing righteousness before others; it is living truthfully before God.
Pause and Ponder
Are there areas of my life where my public image and private reality do not match?
Do I seek the approval of people more than the approval of God?
What would it look like to live with greater sincerity and integrity before the Lord?
May we choose holiness each day as we walk before our God with honest hearts and wholehearted devotion.
Holy Father, search my heart and make me sincere in my worship, truthful in my motives, and wholly devoted to You. Amen.
