Righteousness – Righteousness in Worship (365/169)

It is possible to do all the right things for God - attend church, sing the songs, read our Bibles, pray faithfully, and serve diligently - while our hearts slowly drift away from Him.
Righteousness is defined as the state or quality of being morally right, justifiable, and virtuous. The Bible tells us that not one of us is righteous (Romans 3:10). God alone is righteous and faithful in all His ways (Psalm 145:17). We are given righteousness when we believe in Christ (Romans 3:22). We as His followers are to do what is right and that is better than sacrifice (Proverbs 21:3).
Cain and Abel, both came to worship God, bringing their offerings from the fruit of their labour (Genesis 4: 3–5). Yet God accepted Abel's offering and rejected Cain's. Have you wondered why? "By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous" (Hebrews 11:4). Abel approached God “by faith” and was counted righteous. Though Cain too came with an offering, his heart hid anger and jealousy, exposing the unrighteousness within.
God is righteous, perfectly just, perfectly holy, and perfectly true. Through faith in Christ, we are declared righteous - not because of our works, but because of His finished work on the cross (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Pause and Ponder
Is my relationship with God rooted in genuine faith or sustained merely by religious routine?
Are pride, comparison, or hidden resentment quietly replacing trust and obedience in my heart?
What is one way I can offer God wholehearted worship today rather than simply outward service?
May our worship always rise from hearts that are righteous through our faith in Christ.
Lord, guard me from empty religion and may my worship be righteous in Your sight. Amen.
