Zeal For God – Zeal for God's Presence (365/192)

Hearts that linger with God are often the first to recognize His work.
"She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying." (Luke 2:37)
Luke 2 tells of Anna, who for decades lived in quiet obscurity. Widowed for many years, she devoted herself to worship, prayer, and waiting in the temple. Her life was not marked by public influence or remarkable achievements, but by an unwavering longing for God's presence. She found her joy not in recognition, but in communion with God.
When Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the temple, Anna immediately recognized the promised Messiah. While many religious leaders possessed extensive knowledge of the Scriptures, they failed to recognize the One to whom the Scriptures pointed. Their hearts had become occupied with reputation, status, and the approval of others. Anna, however, had spent years cultivating intimacy with God, and her spiritual eyes were ready to see His salvation when He appeared.
Jesus Christ, Immanuel - God with us, through His life, death and resurrection, removed the barrier between God and man, inviting us to a continual fellowship with the Father. Zeal for God's presence is not merely about religious activity; it is about delighting in Christ Himself and allowing every part of our lives to be shaped by communion with Him.
Pause and Ponder
Am I cultivating God's presence before pursuing His work?
What distractions are keeping me from enjoying God's presence each day?
If Jesus walked into my ordinary routine today, would my heart be attentive enough to recognize Him?
Wholehearted zeal is cultivated in God's presence long before it is revealed through public service.
Father, fill my heart with zeal for Your presence. Teach me to delight in You above all else, to wait patiently, worship faithfully, and keep my eyes fixed on Christ. Amen.
