Audio - Perfect Humble Obedience

What makes obedience difficult for us? Is it fear, hesitation—or sometimes the quiet belief that we know better? Often the real barrier to obedience is pride.

Scripture reminds us that humility and obedience go hand in hand. Paul writes, “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself” (Philippians 2:3, NKJV). True humility recognizes that God’s wisdom is greater than our own.

Jesus is the ultimate example of this humble obedience. Though He was fully God, He willingly took on human flesh. He was born not into power, but into an obscure and oppressed place. He lived among ordinary people, grew up in a humble home, and worked with His hands as a builder. He endured hunger, weariness, temptation, misunderstanding, and rejection.

Paul writes that Jesus “humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8). The Son of God could have come in glory and power. Instead, He chose the path of suffering and humiliation so that our sins could be forgiven and we could be reconciled to God.

Because Jesus stooped so low to save us, we are invited to respond with hearts that gladly submit to Him. Our obedience is not driven by fear or obligation, but by gratitude for the One who humbled Himself for our salvation.

Pause and Ponder

  • What does Christ’s humility reveal about the heart of God?

  • In what areas might pride be making obedience difficult for you?

  • How could your humble obedience point others toward Christ?

May pride lose its hold on us as we respond to our Redeemer with humble obedience as our act of worship.

Lord Jesus, remove pride from my heart and teach me to walk in humble obedience to Your will each day. Amen.
