Faith in Action – Against Popular Opinion (365/149)

When everyone around us seems headed in one direction, it takes courage to choose differently.
Rahab believed before she belonged. She had heard reports about the God of Israel - how He parted the Red Sea and gave victory over mighty kings and she believed (Joshua 2:8-11). And so when the king of Jericho demanded the spies, Rahab hid them on her roof and sent the soldiers in another direction (Joshua 2:1–7), at risk to her own life, reputation, and safety. Standing against her own people she chose to believe in the God of Israel earning herself a place in the hall of faith, “By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.” (Hebrews 11:31). As a result, when Jericho fell, Rahab was spared (Joshua 6:22–25). Even more astonishingly, she became part of the family line that led to King David and ultimately to Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:5).
Rahab acted on what she believed, even when obedience was costly. Faith in action often requires us to step away from the crowd and risk everything on the certainty that God is who He says He is.
Pause and Ponder
Where is God calling me to act on what I know to be true, even if it is costly?
Am I allowing my past, failures, or background to keep me from trusting God's mercy?
Who in my life needs to see that God's grace is available to all who believe?
In Christ, all who trust in Him, regardless of their past, find mercy, redemption, and a place in God's family.

Merciful God, give me courage to act on what I believe. Help me trust Your saving grace, obey You despite the cost. Amen.
