Kindness – Kindness That Remembers (365/205)

We easily remember the people who matter to us - their birthdays, their messages, their milestones. But some quietly slip from our minds - the lonely, the overlooked, or the person we once promised to help.
“Do not fear, for I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan.” (2 Samuel 9:7)
In 2 Samuel 9:1, the Bible tells us that David asked if anyone remained in Saul’s family to whom he could show kindness for Jonathan’s sake. He chose to remember. He discovered Mephibosheth, Saul’s descendant, who was lame and living in fear. Where others might have seen a political threat or a broken man, David saw someone worthy of dignity and belonging, and went looking for him. He went beyond fulfilling an old promise: he restored Saul’s land, provided for Mephibosheth’s needs, and gave him a permanent place at the king’s table (2 Samuel 9:7–13).
God does not forget His people; His steadfast love endures forever (Psalm 136:1; Isaiah 49:15–16). We did not seek God first; He sought us. In Christ, those who were once “far off” have been brought near (Ephesians 2:13) and welcomed into God’s family.
Having received such kindness, we are called to remember those others forget.
Pause and Ponder
Who has quietly disappeared from my awareness whom God may be asking me to remember?
Do I wait for people to approach me, or do I deliberately look for someone I can bless?
How might remembering someone today communicate God's faithful love to them?
Perhaps kindness today is not doing something extraordinary, but simply remembering someone and taking the initiative to reach out.
Faithful God, give me eyes to notice those who are overlooked and a heart willing to seek them out, restore dignity and make room for them today. Amen.
