Hospitality – Hospitality Makes Room (365/211)

Have you ever been so absorbed in your own plans that you barely noticed the person standing beside you? We can be physically present and still miss the people God places in our path. Hospitality begins when we look up.
“Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2)
The Bible says in Genesis 18 that Abraham “lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground” (v. 2). Abraham invited them to stay and immediately began preparing a meal. He offered them water, rest and bread, but then hurried to prepare a lavish feast, personally attending to their needs (v 1–8). Abraham welcomed these strangers without knowing who they were or what they might bring.
Abraham’s hospitality challenges our tendency to reserve our generosity for those within our circle. Biblical hospitality makes room for the stranger, the vulnerable and those who cannot repay us (Leviticus 19:33–34; Luke 14:12–14).
Jesus welcomed the outsider, ate with sinners, noticed the overlooked and ultimately gave Himself so that those who were far away could be brought near and become members of God’s household (Ephesians 2:12–13, 19).
Pause and Ponder
Who around me might God be asking me to notice rather than overlook?
Where has comfort, busyness or self-protection made my heart less welcoming?
What could generous hospitality look like in my ordinary relationships this week?
We make room for others because Christ first made room for us.
Lord, open my eyes to those around me, move me beyond convenience, and enable me to welcome others as Christ has welcomed me. Amen.
