Generosity – Generosity When You Have Little (365/268)

Sometimes, when we want to help someone in need, a quiet question holds us back: “What if I don’t have enough for myself?”
“So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days.” (1 Kings 17:15)
The Bible in 1 Kings 17 introduces us to the widow of Zarephath. She had only a handful of flour and a little oil left, and was preparing one final meal for herself and her son when Elijah asked her for food. Having no guarantee of what tomorrow holds, she chose to trust God's word and give. Her generosity did not come from abundance but from faith. She had no guarantee of what tomorrow would bring, yet she acted on God's promise. And as always, God proved faithful. The flour did not run out, nor did the oil fail. What seemed insufficient became enough through His provision.
Christ became poor for our sake so that through Him we might become rich (2 Corinthians 8:9). We give not to earn His favour, but because we have received His grace. When we share a meal with someone in need or give to a struggling family, we reflect the generosity Christ has shown us.
Pause and Ponder
What makes you hesitate to give when your resources seem limited?
Is there something small you could share with someone today?
How can trusting Christ change your attitude towards generosity?
True generosity gives wisely and willingly, trusting that what we share in faith reflects the abundance of grace we have received in Christ.

Lord Jesus, help me trust Your provision, release my fear of not having enough, and give generously from the grace I have received from You. Amen.
