Humility – When Humility Becomes Our Strength (365/42)

In our culture, power and success often come with status, recognition, and influence. We’re taught to climb higher, speak louder, and claim our place. But following Jesus calls us to a radically different mindset—one that values humility over pride, service over self-promotion, and love over status.
Paul’s description of Christ’s humility in Philippians 2:5–8 paints a powerful picture: “He made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant… He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!” (NKJV). Jesus, the King of kings, chose the path of self-emptying and service, showing us that true greatness is found not in being served, but in serving others. And Paul calls us to have this mind of Christ in us.
In Christ, humility is not weakness—it is strength restrained by love and obedience. It is humility that frees us from the pressure to prove ourselves, opening the door to live out our God-given purposes. When we imitate Christ’s humility, our relationships deepen, our stress about status decreases, and our service becomes a joyful expression of love. Our measure of power and success are challenged and redefined. Christ’s example invites us to step down from pride and step into compassionate service, to lift others up, and to carry one another’s burdens.
Pause and Ponder
Whose needs am I serving in my actions and choices?
How do I usually respond to power or success in my life?
Am I willing to put aside my own agendas to follow His example?
Choosing humility reshapes our hearts and realigns our priorities. It leads to lives marked not by self-importance, but by grace-filled influence.

Lord Jesus, help me embrace Your example, turning away from pride and self-promotion. Teach me to live humbly, serving others in love and joy. Amen.
