Purity – When No One is Watching (365/52)

Take a moment to pause and think - what motivates you to do what you do? Life’s decisions, small or big, are motivated by what we believe and truly value.
Book of Ruth 3 takes us to what could have been a morally ambiguous situation. Naomi asks Ruth to dress and go to the threshing floor at night and place herself at Boaz’s feet. This could have been a setting filled with potential misunderstanding and moral ambiguity. Yet the Scripture portrays Ruth as having conducted herself with humility, courage, and restraint. Boaz publicly affirmed her as a “virtuous woman,” (v11) showing that her character and reputation was already well known.
Ruth did not pursue self-advancement. Her motive was redemption through God’s ordained provision—the kinsman-redeemer. Her purity was seen not only in that night’s restraint but in her loyal devotion to Naomi, even when loyalty meant hardship. She chose faithfulness over convenience, integrity over impulse.
Ruth’s story ultimately points us to Christ, our true Redeemer. Just as Boaz willingly stepped in to redeem, Jesus stepped into our brokenness to cover us with His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). Where we have failed in purity, He restores. Where our motives have been mixed, He cleanses. He not only calls us to integrity—He clothes us in it.
Pause and Ponder
Who am I when my actions are unseen and my motives unexamined by others?
What reputation is my daily conduct quietly building?
In what areas am I tempted to take shortcuts instead of trusting God’s timing and structure?
Purity is living so honestly before God that our character remains the same in private as it is in public.

Lord, may my motives ever honour You, even when no one else is watching, Amen.
