Audio - Persevering Over The Long Haul

Most of us can endure a crisis for a season. But what happens when the struggle lasts for years? When your resources are gone, your strength is depleted, and nothing seems to change? Hope can quietly slip away.

The Bible in Mark 5 tells us of a woman who for twelve long years,  had suffered from a flow of blood. She had endured countless treatments, spent all she had, and her condition only grew worse (v25–26). Physically exhausted, financially depleted, and socially isolated, she had every reason to give up. Instead, she acted. “For she said, ‘If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well’” (v28).

This unnamed woman pressed through a crowd because she believed Jesus could do what no one else could. Her faith was both humble and bold. She did not demand attention, yet she refused to let her suffering have the final word.

Jesus did not ignore her quiet act of faith. He stopped, sought her out, and called her “Daughter” (v34). Jesus not only healed her body also restored her dignity and welcomed her into a relationship with Himself. And this same Jesus invites weary and desperate people like you and me to come to Him with our hidden struggles and our deepest needs.

Pause and Ponder

  • What disappointment or long struggle has tempted me to give up hope?

  • What obstacles are keeping me from bringing my need fully to Jesus?

  • Who around me needs to experience the compassion and restoring touch of Christ?

Faith in action often means refusing to let past failures, long suffering, or the opinions of others keep us from Jesus.

Compassionate Savior, Help me to press through fear, disappointment, and weariness, and give me the courage to come to You with my deepest needs. Amen.
