Holiness – Near Yet Far (365/168)

You can sit in church every week, know the right words, and even serve in ministry, yet still be far from God.
For three years, Judas walked with Jesus, heard His teaching, witnessed His miracles, and shared in the ministry of the Twelve. Yet beneath the surface, his heart was divided. He loved money more than he loved Christ (John 12:4–6). In the end, he traded the Son of God for thirty pieces of silver and deliberately sought an opportunity to betray Him (Matthew 26:14–16).
Jesus stands in complete contrast. His entire life was marked by perfect devotion to the Father. He could ask, “Which of you convicts Me of sin?” (John 8:46), because His inner life and outward conduct were perfectly aligned. Though tempted in every way as we are, He remained without sin (Hebrews 4:15). The Holy One willingly gave Himself on the cross so that sinners might be cleansed and made holy. “He who knew no sin” became sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Holiness is loving, trusting, and surrendering ourselves to the Lord Jesus. A divided heart can stand near Christ and still miss Him entirely. But a devoted heart finds in Him forgiveness, transformation, and true life.
Pause and Ponder
Is my relationship with Jesus marked by genuine devotion or merely religious familiarity?
Are there competing loves that are slowly drawing my heart away from Christ?
What would wholehearted loyalty to Jesus look like in my daily life?
It is our greatest privilege not merely to be near Jesus, but to belong wholly to Him.
Holy Lord Jesus, guard my heart from divided affections and draw me into deeper love and loyalty to You. Amen.
