Zeal For God – Zeal for God's Covenant (365/191)

We often associate zeal for God with bold preaching, public ministry, or visible sacrifice. Yet some of its greatest expressions are found in those who quietly risk everything to protect what matters most to God.
"But Jehosheba... took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the royal princes who were about to be murdered... and hid him." (2 Kings 11:2)
The Bible says in 2 Kings 11 that when Queen Athaliah seized the throne, she attempted to destroy every royal heir. While others remained silent in fear, Jehosheba acted quietly and courageously. She risked her own life to rescue the infant Joash and hide him in the temple for six years.
Through her courage and ingenuity, she preserved the royal line of David through which the Messiah would come. Though Athaliah sought to destroy the royal line, God fulfilled His plan through the quiet obedience of one faithful woman.
Jesus’ zeal for the Father's redemptive plan carried Him to the cross, where every promise of God found its fulfilment. As those who belong to Christ, we are called to share that same zeal, living not for our own purposes but for the advancement of God's kingdom and His eternal purposes.
Pause and Ponder
Does zeal for God cause me to serve faithfully even when no one notices?
Where is God calling me to protect and invest in His purposes for the next generation?
Do I trust God's covenant faithfulness when circumstances seem to contradict His promises?
Athaliahs may arise to oppose God's purposes, but God still raises Jehoshebas whose quiet yet courageous zeal preserves His redemptive plan.

Father, fill my heart with zeal for Your purposes that I may advance Your kingdom with wholehearted devotion. Amen.
