Hospitality – Hospitality Flows from a Transformed Heart (365/214)

Sometimes transformation is seen in how we make room for others. Lydia’s story shows how genuine hospitality can flow from a life transformed by Christ.
“If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us. (Acts 16:15)
The Bible tells us that when Paul shared the gospel in Philippi, “the Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message” (Acts 16:14). Lydia, a merchant dealing in purple cloth, was baptized along with her household. Almost immediately, she urged Paul and his companions to stay at her home. Her newly awakened faith overflowed into an open home.
Lydia did not merely listen to the gospel; she allowed it to reshape how she related to others. After Paul and Silas were released from prison, they returned to Lydia’s house, where they met and encouraged the believers (Acts 16:40). Her home became a place where God's people could gather, find encouragement and strengthen one another. Lydia reminds us that hospitality flows from a heart that has experienced God's grace and is willing to extend that grace to others.
Christ welcomed us when we were far from God and made a way for us to belong to God's household (Ephesians 2:13, 19).
Pause and Ponder
What evidence of God's transforming grace can others see in the way I welcome them?
How could I use my home, time or resources to strengthen others?
Who might God be inviting me to make room for this week?
When Christ transforms our hearts, His grace overflows into the way we welcome others.
Lord, transform my heart so that my home, time and resources become channels of Your grace, where others experience Your love and find encouragement. Amen.
