Unity – Unity Begins When Everyone Matters (365/232)
What comes to mind when you hear the word unity? Perhaps everyone agrees, getting along or simply being together.
The Bible shows us that unity is more than being together. It is living out our belonging to one another in Christ - serving, supporting, reconciling, restoring and strengthening one another. And our unity becomes a witness to the world (John 17:20–23).
“There should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.” (1 Corinthians 12:25)
Acts 6, tells us that when the early church in Jerusalem grew, the Greek-speaking Jewish widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. Instead of ignoring or allowing this issue to become a source of resentment or division, the apostles acted decisively. The community chose seven trustworthy men to oversee the distribution while the apostles remained devoted to prayer and the ministry of the Word (v1–7).
Unity matters: it protects the health of Christ's body. Paul reminds us that there should be no division among believers because every member matters; when one suffers, all suffer, and when one is honoured, all rejoice.
God is impartial. He does not overlook the vulnerable or value one over the other (James 2:1–9). Jesus noticed people others overlooked, crossed social barriers and welcomed those pushed to the margins. At the cross, He broke down walls and brought people together in one body (Ephesians 2:13–18).
Pause and Ponder
Who around me might be feeling unseen, unheard or overlooked?
Do I genuinely care when others hurt?
Whom can I help feel seen and valued this week?
Unity begins when everyone knows they have a place in Christ's family.
Give me Lord Your heart of compassion and help me notice the overlooked, listen with humility and make room for others. Amen.
