Surrender – Surrender of Insecurity (365/58)

Are you plagued by self-doubt? Quick to list reasons why you’re unqualified? Moses was.
Forty years earlier, Moses acted impulsively, convinced he could deliver Israel in his own strength (Exodus 2:11–15). But when God met him at the burning bush and called him to confront Pharaoh, his confidence had evaporated. Moses asks, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” (Exodus 3:11). God’s answer was not a résumé boost—it was a promise: “I will certainly be with you” (v12).
When Moses asked who was sending him, God revealed His name: “I AM WHO I AM” (v14). This is the self-existent, sovereign God—unchanging, incomparable, without equal. He depends on no one and answers to no one. The great I AM does not draw His strength from human ability; He supplies it.
God shifted Moses’ focus from inadequacy to identity—not Moses’ identity, but God’s. The secret of Christian surrender is moving from “Who am I?” to “Who is God?” We surrender not because we feel capable, but because He is. In our weakness, His sufficiency shines (2 Corinthians 12:9). The same sovereign Lord who called Moses calls us. He reminds us that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think according to His power at work in us (Ephesians 3:20) when we surrender our hearts and wills to Him.
Pause and Ponder
Where am I letting insecurity silence obedience?
Am I focused more on my limitations than on God’s sufficiency?
What fear do I need to surrender to the great I AM?
When we fix our eyes on who God is, surrender becomes trust, and fears and excuses find their way out.

O Great I AM, lift my eyes from my weakness to Your power. Quiet my doubts, steady my heart, and use my life for Your glory. Amen.
