Surrender – Courage to Surrender (365/59)

Have you ever wondered why you are placed in the family, workplace, neighbourhood, or church where you are today? Scripture reminds us that these things are not accidents.
Esther understood this truth during a crucial time in her life as queen to King Xerxes. Haman’s evil plans placed the Jewish people under threat. Mordecai challenges Esther to rise up and act, reminding her that perhaps she had come to her royal position “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14).
For Esther it was more than a simple action. Approaching the king without being summoned could cost her life, and she had not even been called to see him for thirty days. But the Bible tells us that she chose to risk everything to obey God’s purpose. Esther’s response reveals a heart yielded to God. After calling for a fast, she declared, “I will go to the king… and if I perish, I perish!” (Esther 4:16, NKJV). And the rest as they say is history.
Jesus models the greatest surrender—submitting to the Father’s will even unto the cross for our salvation (Luke 22:42).
Pause and Ponder
What does Esther’s story reveal about God’s sovereignty in placing His people where they are?
What fears or comforts sometimes keep you from fully surrendering to God’s purposes?
Whom might God be calling you to serve or stand for in your current place—your “such a time as this”?
God still places ordinary people in specific places to accomplish His extraordinary Kingdom purposes (Ephesians 2:10). May we, like Esther respond in courageous surrender, when we face situations that require us to make hard choices for God to live out our God-given calling.

Lord, give me a heart that chooses surrender to You over comfort and, courage over fear. Amen.
