Obedience – When God’s Instruction Seems Unusual (365/64)

What if you already knew the outcome of a game before it began? How would that change the way you played? Confidence would replace fear, uncertainty would give way to boldness.
In Joshua 6, the Lord tells Joshua something remarkable: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand” (v.2, NKJV). The victory was already declared before the battle even began. Yet God’s instructions to claim that victory seemed unusual. Instead of a military assault, the Israelites were told to march around the city once a day for six days, led by priests blowing trumpets while the people remained silent. On the seventh day they were to march seven times and then shout when the ram’s horn was blown.
To a seasoned commander like Joshua, this strategy must have seemed strange. Yet the Bible tells us that Joshua obeyed without hesitation, and the people followed in faith. When they did exactly as the Lord commanded, the walls of Jericho fell. The victory clearly belonged to God alone.
We as Christians live each day from a place of victory “It is finished” (John 19:30) and Through Christ we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37). But we are also called to back our faith with action (James 2:17).
Pause and Ponder
What does this passage reveal about God’s power and His ways of working?
Where might God be asking you to obey Him even when His instructions do not fully make sense?
Whom could your quiet obedience encourage to trust and follow God more faithfully?
When we trust God’s voice above our understanding, we discover that His ways always lead to victory.

Lord, help me to trust and obey You implicitly even when Your ways seem unfamiliar or difficult to understand. Amen.
