Audio - Sacrifice of the Most Loved

How would the Lord know that I truly fear Him? What would it take for my reverence and trust in God to be seen?

After twenty-five long years of waiting, God had finally given Abraham the son He had promised. Isaac was not just a child; he represented hope, future, and the fulfilment of God’s word. Yet in Genesis 22, God asks Abraham to offer this very son as a burnt offering.

What thoughts must have crossed Abraham’s mind? If there was one person most precious to him, it was Isaac. And yet that was exactly what God asked him to place on the altar.

When Abraham obeyed, the angel declared, “Now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” (v12). Abraham’s obedience revealed that he trusted the Giver, rather than the gift. Abraham believed God could even raise the dead if necessary (Hebrews 11:19). His confidence rested in God’s character—even when the command made no sense.

God stops Abraham and provides a ram in Isaac’s place. Isaac lives because a substitute is given. Centuries later, God would not spare His own Son. Jesus became the Lamb who was truly sacrificed for us.

Pause and Ponder

  • What is something in your life that you find hardest to place in God’s hands?

  • What might your response to God reveal about where your deepest trust truly lies?

  • Whom can you encourage today with the assurance that God Himself has provided the Lamb through Jesus?

When we place what we love most into God’s hands, we discover that His faithfulness is greater than our fears.

Lord, You know my heart better than I know it myself. Teach me to trust You enough to surrender what I hold most dear. Amen.

Genesis 22:1-14
