Audio - Peace When Jesus Rules

When life feels overwhelming, is your fear louder than your faith?

The Bible tells us in Mark 4, that a sudden storm threatens to sink the boat carrying Jesus and His disciples. Waves crash. The wind howls. Fear rises. In desperation, the disciples wake Jesus, crying out for help. Jesus stands and speaks to the storm: “Peace, be still!” (v39). Immediately, the wind ceases, and a great calm follows. What was violent moments before becomes still at His word.

But Jesus does not stop there. He turns to His disciples and asks, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” (v40). His question goes beyond the storm—they reveal the deeper storm within their hearts. The disciples’ fear was not just about danger; it was about doubt. They had seen Jesus’ power, yet in the moment of crisis, they struggled to trust His presence and His care.

Do we not experience a similar loss of peace when we allow doubt and fear to take hold in storms that threaten to overwhelm us? True peace is when the storm within is stilled through trust in Jesus. He is already in the boat. When Christ is present, fear does not have the final word, He does.

Pause and Ponder

  1. What does this passage reveal about Jesus as the One who brings peace in the midst of chaos?

  2. Where in my life am I struggling to trust Jesus’ care, not just His power?

  3. Whom can I encourage today to trust Jesus in the middle of their storm?

Peace is not found in calm waters—but in Christ who is with you in the storm.

Lord Jesus, please calm the storms in my heart and help me trust not only Your power, but Your care for me, knowing You are always in control. Amen.
