Audio - Hope that Rests in Who God is

What sustains your heart when everything else feels uncertain? Can you still hope when all you can do is wait?

The prophet Jeremiah opens Lamentations 3 describing deep personal suffering, speaking of the “rod of His wrath” (v1) and the painful sense that God Himself was against them. Yet, in the midst of this affliction, hope begins to rise. Though beaten down, God’s people were not completely consumed—there remained a remnant, carrying the promise of restoration. Even in discipline, there was evidence of His compassion—“new every morning.”

And so, in Lamentations 3:24–26, comes a quiet yet powerful declaration: “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” Words spoken not in comfort, but in sorrow and loss. Yet a choice is made—to anchor hope not in circumstances, but in God Himself. Hope that is quiet, steady, and confident in God’s character of mercy and His compassions that do not fail. Compassions that are new every morning. Resting in the great faithfulness of God (v22-23). That is the reason for the hope in Him.

When everything else shifts, “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27, NKJV). He remains our portion, our sufficiency, and our salvation.

Pause and Ponder

  • What does it mean for me to truly say, “The LORD is my portion” in this season?

  • Where is God inviting me to wait quietly instead of striving or worrying?

  • Whom can I encourage today to place their hope in the Lord while they wait?

To say, “The LORD is my portion” is to declare: He is enough. And when He is enough, we can wait—quietly, patiently, and with unshaken hope.

Lord, teach me to wait for You with a quiet and trusting heart and strengthen my hope in You. Amen.
