Joy – Fullness Found in His Presence (365/93)

When your heart feels restless and what once satisfied no longer seems enough, what do you do, where do you go?
David’s words in Psalm 16:11: “You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” remind us that joy is not a fleeting happiness, but a settled assurance rooted in God Himself. Joy, David tells us, is found in God’s presence. Though life around him was uncertain, David chose to anchor himself in the Person of God. He writes from a place of trust because he was confident that his life was directed and sustained by God’s hand.
The New Testament reads this verse as pointing to the Messiah. On the day of Pentecost, Peter quotes and explains these words as a prophecy fulfilled in Jesus Christ’s resurrection. Risen, exalted, and seated at the Father’s right hand, Jesus brings to completion what David foresaw. Through Him, we are welcomed into God’s presence, where joy is made full.
As Psalms 126:5–6 says, “Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.” To walk with Christ is to walk the path of life; to abide in Him is to taste unfading joy.
Pause and Ponder:
What does this verse reveal about where true and lasting joy is found?
In what ways have I been seeking joy outside of God’s presence?
Whom can I invite or encourage to walk with Christ and discover this fullness of joy?
As scripture reminds us: joy is not something we discover apart from God—it is something we experience in communion with Him.

Lord Jesus, draw me deeper into Your presence, where true joy is found and help me to seek You above all else and every step of the way. Amen.
