God’s Providence – God’s Providence in Obedience (365/121)

Does obedience to God sometimes seem confusing and His instructions difficult to reconcile with His promises?
Abraham faced such a moment on Mount Moriah. God promised to make Abraham a great nation through Isaac, yet now asked him to offer that very son as a sacrifice. The promise and the instruction didn’t seem to hold together.
Yet the Bible tells us that Abraham obeyed God (Genesis 22:3). When Isaac asked about the lamb for the sacrifice, Abraham replied with remarkable faith, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering” (Genesis 22:8). Abraham trusted the Giver of the promise more than the promise itself (Hebrews 11:17–19). Abraham’s place of testing became the place where he learned that the Lord could be trusted even when he did not always understand.
Our heavenly Father did not spare His own Son but gave Him for us. At Moriah, God provided a substitute for Isaac. At Calvary, He provided Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice for us (Hebrews 10:14). The cross remains the greatest proof that God never fails His children.
Pause and Ponder
What does Abraham’s response teach me about trusting God when His ways seem difficult to understand?
Where is God asking me to obey Him even before I can see His provision?
Whom can I encourage today to remain faithful while waiting for God to provide?
God does not always explain His purposes before He calls us to obey. Yet His unseen hand is already at work, His purposes are good, and He remains faithful even when He leads us up difficult mountains where we cannot yet see the outcome.

Father, when we cannot understand Your ways, strengthen our faith to trust Your character, and help us obey You implicitly. Amen.
