Faith – Faith Beyond What We Can See (365/135)

Every day, faith presents us with a choice: To live by what God has promised, or by what we can presently see?
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. - Hebrews 11:8
In Genesis 12, when God called Abraham, he left everything familiar and followed without knowing his final destination. He lived as a foreigner in tents, trusting promises that would take years, even generations, to unfold. Abraham's confidence rested in the God who had called him, allowing him to release control and live in the light of God's promises.
Lot, on the other hand, when given the opportunity to select land, looked at the fertile plains of the Jordan and chose what appeared most prosperous (Genesis 13:11-12), guided by what looked good rather than by what honored God. Lot pitched his tent toward Sodom, but eventually Sodom pitched its values within his heart.
Abraham trusted God with the future. Lot trusted his own assessment of the present. Abraham became known as the friend of God and the father of faith. Lot was rescued from judgment, but only because God remembered Abraham.
Pause and Ponder
Am I making decisions based primarily on what I can see or on what God has said?
Is there an area where I am hesitating to obey because I cannot see the entire path ahead?
Who might be influenced for God's kingdom if I chose obedience over convenience?
Faith does not require knowing the destination; it requires taking the next step in obedience, even when the path ahead remains unseen.

Father, give me the courage to obey when the path is uncertain and the wisdom to value Your purposes above temporary gain. Amen.
