Audio - Faith That Acts

Two people can look at the same situation, possess the same information, and arrive at completely different conclusions.

In Joshua 2, we read of Rahab, a prostitute in Jericho who knew of the God of Israel. She had heard how the Lord dried up the Red Sea and defeated mighty kings. She testified that the people of the land were in fear of the Israelites and their God and that “the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. (v11) Because she believed what she knew, she acted on it. She risked her life and sheltered the spies.

The ten spies, on the other hand, had even greater evidence. They had witnessed God's miracles firsthand, yet when they returned from spying the land, they brought back a fearful report (Numbers 13:27–33). Though they acknowledged the abundance of the land God had promised, they focused on the giants, the fortified cities, and their own inadequacy rather than on God's proven faithfulness. Fear distorted their perspective and led an entire nation to retreat from God's promise.

Rahab viewed the obstacles through the lens of God's power. The spies viewed God through the lens of their obstacles. We often face the same choice. Will we measure the challenges before us through the lens of God's power or measure God’s power through the lens of our circumstances?

Pause and Ponder

  • What obstacle in my life appears larger than God's promises today?

  • Am I allowing fear to shape my perspective more than God's proven faithfulness?

  • Whom might God be calling me to influence toward faith rather than fear?

Faith is not measured by what we know about God but by whether we act on what we know.

Father, help me to see my circumstances through the lens of Your power and faithfulness. Amen.
