Audio - Faith Steps Out

It is possible to stay safe and miss what God is inviting you to experience.

On a stormy night, all the disciples saw the same thing - Jesus walking on the water. All of them heard the same reassuring voice: “It is I; do not be afraid” (Matthew 14:27). Yet only one disciple, Peter, stepped over the edge of the boat, saying. “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, ‘Come.’” (v28-29).

Peter is often remembered for sinking. But before Peter sank, he walked on water. While the other disciples remained in the boat, frozen by fear and uncertainty, Peter responded to Jesus' invitation and stepped onto the waves. He experienced for a moment what none of the others did - not because his faith was perfect, but because he was willing to act on it.

Faith is not the absence of doubt; it is the willingness to step out when Jesus says, "Come."

How often do we stay in the ‘boat’ because it feels safer? We wait until the risks disappear, the answers are clear, and the outcome is guaranteed. Yet faith grows not in the comfort of the boat but in obedience to Christ's call.

Pause and Ponder

  • Is there an area where Jesus is calling me to step out in faith, but fear is holding me back?

  • Am I focusing more on the strength of the storm or the presence of the Savior?

  • Who might God encourage through my willingness to trust Him beyond my comfort zone?

The greatest failure is not sinking after stepping out - it is never leaving the boat.

Father, give me the courage to have faith above my fears. When I begin to doubt, help me fix my eyes on You Jesus. Amen.
