Audio - Trusting God Above Human Approval

Have you ever remained silent when you should have spoken, agreed when you should have disagreed, or compromised because you feared what others might think?

"The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe." ( Proverbs 29:25)

The fear of people is a powerful trap. It persuades us that acceptance, approval, and reputation are essential to our security. Yet Proverbs warns that such fear is a hidden trap that entangles our hearts and influences our choices. We see examples in the Bible of times that fear of people became stronger than fear of God - Aaron gave in to the demands of the crowd and fashioned a golden calf. Saul valued public opinion more than obedience to God. Peter denied Jesus because he feared the reaction of those around him.

While people are unpredictable and their opinions constantly change, God remains steadfast. He promises His presence and strength (Isaiah 41:10). When our confidence rests in the Lord, we are no longer enslaved by what others think of us. Like a tree planted by water (Jeremiah 17:7–8), we can remain stable and fruitful even when pressure mounts.

Jesus never altered His mission to gain human applause or avoid human criticism. He remained fully obedient to His Father, even when rejected, mocked, and crucified.

Pause and Ponder

  • Whose approval am I seeking more than God's approval right now?

  • How has fear of people's opinions influenced my decisions or obedience?

  • Who might be encouraged if I boldly and graciously stood for Christ this week?

When God is your security, people no longer have to be.

Father, forgive me for the times I have feared people more than I have trusted You. Help me to find my security in Your love, Your presence, and Your approval. Amen.
