Wisdom – When the Loudest Voices Win (365/15)

Advice is everywhere, but discernment takes slowing down. In moments of pressure, the loudest voices can sound confident, urgent, even reasonable, and before we realise it, they begin to steer our hearts.
“But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him.” — 1 Kings 12:8 (NKJV)
Rehoboam stood at a crossroads of counsel. The elders, shaped by years with Solomon, urged humility, kindness, and lighter burdens, showing that true strength serves. The younger men pushed dominance and control. Choosing the voice that fed his pride and fear, Rehoboam fracturing the kingdom.
What unfolded in Rehoboam’s court often unfolds in our hearts. We are drawn to voices that echo our insecurity, defend our image, or promise quick control. Yet godly wisdom flows from reverence for the Lord, patience, and a willingness to serve rather than dominate. At the cross, the true King who said “My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:30, NKJV), carried our heaviest burden, our sin and shame, and invited us to walk in forgiveness, freedom, and rest with Him.
Pause and Ponder
What makes certain familiar voices feel safer than godly counsel in my life?
How might listening first to Jesus reshape the decisions I am facing this week?
Whom can I point to Jesus, the King who lifts burdens instead of adding to them?
Wisdom grows when we slow down, honour godly counsel, and place our choices before Christ. He may not be the loudest voice, but He is always the truest.

Lord Jesus, quiet the competing voices around me. Tune my heart to Your truth, and help me choose wisdom rooted in You. Amen.
