Audio - Surrender of the Seemingly Little

Do you sometimes feel that what you have to offer God is too small to matter? Perhaps you look around at others and think they have greater talents, more influence, or more resources and wonder what difference could your little contribution make?

In chapter six of the gospel of John, we meet a little boy in a large crowd listening to Jesus. When the disciples wondered how thousands could be fed, Andrew found him and brought the boy to Jesus and said, “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” (v9).

The boy’s lunch was simple and barely enough for one child, let alone thousands. Yet this boy did something remarkable: he surrendered what he had to Jesus. He could have held back. After all, it was his only meal. But in that quiet act of surrender, the little he had was placed in the hands of the One who multiplies. Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them. What seemed insignificant became more than enough to feed the entire crowd.

God does not ask us to bring greatness—He asks us to bring what we have. In the hands of Christ, even the smallest offering becomes a vessel for His power.

Pause and Ponder

  • What does this story reveal about how God views what we consider small or insignificant?

  • Is there something you hesitate to offer to God because it seems too little?

  • Whom might God bless through the small gift, ability, or opportunity you place in His hands today?

What we surrender to Christ—no matter how small—He is able to multiply beyond what we imagine.

Lord, help me surrender what I have without hesitation and trust You to multiply it for Your purposes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
