Faithful Friendship – Faithful Friends Carry You to Jesus (365/220)
Sometimes faithful friendship means doing more than standing nearby. It means carrying someone when they cannot take the next step themselves.
“When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’” (Mark 2:5)
The Bible in Mark 2 describes four friends who brought a paralyzed man to Jesus, believing that Jesus could do what they could not. The crowd blocked every ordinary path to Him. They could have turned back. Instead, they carried their friend onto the roof, opened it, and lowered him directly before Jesus. (Mark 2:1–4). These determined, faithful friends did not merely express their faith in words but demonstrated it through persistent action. And Jesus responded to their faith (Mark 2:5). Before the man could walk, Jesus addressed his deeper need, declaring his sins forgiven. Then Jesus commanded him to get up, take his mat and go home. Immediately, he did (Mark 2:10–12).
What a picture of faithful friendship! We cannot forgive sins or heal but we can carry someone toward Him. We can pray when they cannot pray, encourage when they have lost hope, stand beside them when circumstances overwhelm them, and remove obstacles that keep them from experiencing His presence.
Pause and Ponder
Who needs me to help carry them toward Jesus?
What barrier can I help remove?
When a friend loses hope, will I trust Jesus to do what I cannot?
Jesus does what no friend can do - He forgives our sin and restores what is broken (Mark 2:5–12). May we, in turn, be faithful friends who cannot fix the brokenness but refuse to stop carrying one another to Jesus.
Lord Jesus, make me a faithful friend who responds with compassion and perseverance, always pointing others to You, the One who forgives, heals and restores. Amen.
