Faithful Friendship – Faithful Friends Help You Grow (365/221)
Truth can wound when it is delivered to prove someone wrong, but the same truth can transform when it is offered with humility, love and respect. Faithful friendship knows the difference.
“They invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more accurately.” (Acts 18:26)
The Bible in Acts 18 tells us that Apollos was gifted, passionate and well-versed in Scripture, yet his understanding was incomplete. Priscilla and Aquila did not correct him publicly but took him aside and explained God’s way more accurately (v 24–26), creating space for correction and growth. As faithful friends, grounded in truth, they recognised what Apollos lacked and patiently equipped him to grow. When he went to Achaia, he became a powerful advocate for the gospel (v 27–28).
Faithful friendship does more than make us comfortable; it helps us become more faithful. A true friend speaks truth without diminishing us, corrects without condemning, and challenges us without taking away our dignity. Such friendship creates a safe space to grow, mature and become more like Christ.
Christ our perfect example is full of grace and truth (John 1:14). He never compromises truth, yet He always uses truth to restore, transform and draw people closer to God.
Pause and Ponder
Do I receive correction with humility?
Do I protect others’ dignity when speaking the truth?
Who is God inviting me to be a faithful friend to—encouraging and helping them grow?
As we remain close to Jesus, may we be faithful friends who speak truth in love and help one another become who God is calling us to be.
Lord, give me humility to receive correction and wisdom to offer it with grace. Make me a friend who strengthens, not diminishes, and helps others flourish in Your purposes. Amen.
