Service – Service That Opens Our Homes (365/256)

Service can sometimes mean using something as ordinary as our homes, our tables and the resources we already have, to bless others.
“If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” (Acts 16:15)
In Acts 16, the Bible tells us about Lydia, a businesswoman who traded in purple cloth. As Paul shared the gospel in Philippi, the Lord opened her heart to respond to his message. After she and her household were baptised, Lydia urged Paul and his companions to stay at her home (v14-15). She opened her home and made her resources available to support God's work. Her hospitality provided a place for Paul and his companions to stay, and her home later became a gathering place for believers (Acts 16:40). This was no formal ministry position, but a simple heartfelt response.
Service by our willingness to make what we have available to God - a meal, a listening ear, a spare room, practical assistance. God can use our little to bless others and advance His work. 1 Peter reminds us, we are to use our gifts to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace (4:10 ).
Like Lydia, may we reflect Christ’s generous love, making room for others to encounter Him and grow in faith.
Pause and Ponder
What can I make available for God’s purposes?
Whom can I welcome or support through simple service?
Am I holding back, waiting until I have more to offer?
May we offer our homes and resources, however modest, with open hands and hearts responding to God’s grace.

Lord, would you give me a generous heart and willing hands. Help me use my home, resources and time to welcome others and strengthen Your work. Amen.
