Obedience – Obedience Beyond Human Logic (365/66)

What does obedience look like when you are already at the end of your resources? When life has pushed you into a corner and there seems to be nothing left to give?
During a severe famine, the Lord sent the prophet Elijah to a widow in Zarephath. This must have sounded surprising, even ironic. God had previously sustained Elijah by the brook Cherith, where ravens brought him food. But when the brook dried up, the Lord told Elijah that a widow would provide for him (1 Kings 17:8–9).
When Elijah arrived, the widow was gathering a few sticks to prepare what she believed would be her final meal for herself and her son. Then came the unexpected request from Elijah - to make him a small cake of bread first before preparing food for herself and her son. Human logic would have resisted. How could she give when she barely had enough to survive?
In remarkable faith, the widow obeyed. Scripture records the beautiful outcome: “So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah… and she and he and her household ate for many days” (v.15).
Christ offered Himself so that we would never lack the Bread of Life (John 6:35), and because of Him we can trust God enough to obey—even when it costs us everything.
Pause and Ponder
What does this story reveal about God’s character and His provision
Are there areas where fear of scarcity is holding you back from obeying God?
Whom might God bless through your simple act of trusting obedience?
Often God calls us to obey not from abundance, but from trust. When we place what little we have in His hands, He proves Himself faithful.

Lord, give me the courage to obey Your voice, even when resources are limited, Amen.
