What does true generosity look like in God’s eyes?
Staggering generosity and complete abandonment mark the offering of the poor widow in Mark 12. Jesus observed what she gave. While many rich people gave large sums, this poor widow came and dropped in two small coins—two mites, worth almost nothing in human terms. Jesus said “This poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury.” (Mark 12:43, NKJV)
The widow's decision to give both the coins she had speaks volumes about her heart and attitude toward God. While others gave out of their abundance, this widow gave all she had. No one would have faulted her for keeping one and giving the other. After all, she had so little.
What matters to God is not merely the size of the gift but the spirit behind it. Deuteronomy reminds us that it is God who gives the power to produce wealth (8:18). The widow’s offering ultimately points us to the greatest “all-in” sacrifice—Jesus Himself. He did not give a portion of His life for us; He gave everything.
Pause and Ponder
What does your attitude toward giving reveal about your trust in God as your provider?
Are there areas of your life where you hold back instead of surrendering fully to the Lord?
Whom might God be inviting you to bless today through a generous and surrendered heart?
God measures our offering not by its amount, but by the surrender of the heart that gives it.

Lord, help me remember that all I have—my time, resources, and life—belongs to You. Guard my heart from holding tightly to what is Yours. Teach me to offer all I have as a willing sacrifice in gratitude. Amen.
Mark 12:41-44
