Righteousness – Righteousness That Endures (365/171)

It is easy to pursue righteousness when obedience brings blessing. But will we remain faithful when doing what is right leads to hardship, misunderstanding, or suffering? Righteousness then becomes a daily choice.
Scripture introduces Job as "blameless and upright, one who feared God and shunned evil" (Job 1:1). In a single day, he lost his children and possessions (Job 1:13–19), and soon his health too (Job 2:7–8). Friends questioned his integrity (Job 4:7–8), his wife urged him to abandon God (Job 2:9), and he struggled to understand why a righteous man should suffer so deeply. Though Job poured out his grief and wrestled honestly with questions he could not answer (Job 7:11–21), he refused to abandon the path of righteousness. He declared, "My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go" (Job 27:6). Even when he could not understand God's purposes, he chose to fear the Lord, trust His character, and remain faithful to what he knew was right (Job 1:20–22; 2:10).
Unlike Job, Jesus never sinned, yet He willingly endured rejection, injustice, and the cross. He remained perfectly obedient to the Father, even unto death. Through His sacrifice, we are declared righteous before God, and through His Spirit, we are empowered to live righteously each day.
Pause and Ponder
Am I holding fast to righteousness even when obedience is difficult?
Is my integrity shaped by my circumstances or by God's unchanging character?
What area of my life is Christ calling me to pursue righteousness today?
May we His people reflect His righteousness, not only in seasons of abundance but also in seasons of adversity.
Righteous Father, help me to hold fast to what is right, daily, even when it is costly. Amen.
